Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about checking a car's history before you buy.
What is a VIN and where do I find it?
The Vehicle Identification Number is a unique 17-character code for every car. Look at the bottom corner of the windscreen on the driver's side, the driver's door frame, the vehicle papers (customs papers, proof of ownership) or the insurance certificate. Our VIN guide has photos of every location.
Which cars can you check?
Our history reports are strongest for cars that were once registered in the United States or Canada, which covers most "tokunbo" cars imported into Nigeria. For cars that came from Europe, Asia or the Middle East we can still decode the VIN and show specifications, but history records may be limited. We tell you before you pay.
What does a history report show?
Depending on the package: title records and title brands (salvage, flood, rebuilt, junk, fire), odometer readings with rollback detection, insurance total-loss and junk/salvage yard records, liens, impounds and export records, police-reported accidents, theft records, salvage auction sales with reported damage, and past sale listings.
How long does it take?
Most reports are ready in under a minute. You'll see a progress screen and we'll email you a link as soon as it's done.
What if no records are found?
If our providers have no history records at all for a VIN, the report will say so clearly and we'll offer you a credit for another check or a refund. Please contact us with your order reference.
How do I pay?
We use Paystack, so you can pay with any Nigerian debit card, bank transfer or USSD. Reports start at ₦7,500.
Can I share the report with the seller or my mechanic?
Yes. Every report has a private link and a downloadable PDF. Anyone with the link can view it, so only share it with people you trust.
Does a clean report mean the car is perfect?
No report can guarantee a car's condition. Not every accident or repair is reported to official databases. Always combine a VINCheck report with a physical inspection by a trusted mechanic and verify the car's customs and registration papers.
Do you offer bulk pricing for car dealers?
Yes. Dealers, auto loan companies and insurers can get discounted report bundles and API access. Visit our dealers page or contact us.
